1. ExposureTherapy

By this therapy those people who are suffering from fear of darkness, will get exposed to darkness until discover that there is nothing to be afraid of in there. After all it is an irrational fear and that there is nothing to be feared out in the dark. But what makes the belief of finding scary things in the dark places remains intact is that the person rarely tests belief. The next premise is that the people who suffering or run away from darkness will have their fears grow much stronger by running away. This treatment is effective especially when the sudden exposure to darkness happens. Experts suggest that this method is only done with patient, when a certain fear will not harm the person or attack on the patient mind and that there is no eminent danger involved. This method or therapy is too effective only when the patient of Achluophobia is ready up for it.

2. Desensitization

In case, a person is too afraid fear of darkness to get directly exposed and faced to the dark situation, then systematic desensitization can be used.
This treatment method is one of the most suggested treatments by experts in dealing with different kind of phobia. It is like exposure therapy but it does not involve direct exposure to the feared any situation or event or animal. The fearful situation is divided into different levels and each level is experienced separately 1 by 1 until you can remain relaxed while facing it.

Different level of systemic desensitization is-
           1.     The first steps exposure to the fear or stimuli in a relaxing manner. After going through this stage without feeling aghast or showing intense emotions, then the patient will move on to the next level and expose you to the same stimuli.
            2.     The patient may need friends or family member to go through this step. For instance, in the first level, the patient along with a group of friends will stay in the dark. It is important that the patient feels complete relaxed and to hold on their emotions. Once these levels are passed then move on to next step or level
            3.     Here the patient is only accompanied with a close friend.
And if this level is passed, then the patient can go into a darkened room alone without feeling fear, stress or anxious.

3. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

This technique is also used in some cases. The therapy based on a principle that the human emotions are triggered by thoughts and since thoughts result from beliefs therefore changing certain beliefs can prevent certain emotions from being triggered.

Experts suggested that by this technique we have able to change their behavioural pattern and then channel their unwanted emotions by simply changing his thoughts on that fear or subject.
